Wildflowers in the Desert: Finding Life Inside Alzheimer’s

Wildflowers in the Desert: Finding Life Inside Alzheimer’s
Sometimes this journey with my mom feels like standing in a place that’s been stripped bare. Alzheimer’s has a way of doing that, taking pieces of the puzzle day by day until the picture doesn’t look the way it used to.
Some days it feels like emotional desert.
But recently I read about wildflowers blooming in Death Valley, one of the driest places on earth. Under the right conditions: a little rain, warmth, and time … life still finds a way to grow in the harshest landscape.
And that image stuck with me.
Because even in the darkness of this disease, there are still moments where something small and beautiful appears.
A squeeze of my hand.
The way my mom lights up when she sees my kids.
A familiar expression that flickers through for just a second.
It doesn’t erase the grief.
It doesn’t make the desert disappear.
But it reminds me that even here, something living is still pushing through the ground.
